Blue Light & Emergency Telephones
Emergency: 911
University Park Police Station Primary Phone: 814-863-1111
The Penn State Emergency Phone System is designed to aid in providing security to the University community. Using these phones, individuals can quickly report emergencies or criminal activity directly to University Police. Those visiting residence halls may also use the phones to request an escort into the building.
Three types of Emergency Phones are in use on the University Park Campus:
Emergency Blue Light Phones
Easily recognizable by their blue lights, emergency phones are located throughout campus.
There is no dialing or number keypad. To activate the phone, simply pick up the receiver and press the red button (some will activate immediately upon picking up the receiver and have no red light). The call will be answered by University Police.
Emergency Blue Light/Pole Phones
Pole phones can be easily recognized by the blue lights above them. These phones have no receiver but instead have a built-in speaker.
To activate the phone, push the red button to call University Police or push the "On" button and you will hear a dial tone.
Residence Hall/Courtesy Phones
Residence hall emergency/courtesy phones are identical in appearance to the "call boxes" described above, but do not have a blue light and are located in residence halls, usually near the entrances. These phones also enable visitors to call a resident for an escort into the building when the residence hall is secured.
