University Police often utilizes students, referred to as Student Auxiliary Officers (AOs), to supplement its full-time police force and security teams at the Penn State University Park and Altoona campuses.

These Student Auxiliary Officers, who come from a wide range of backgrounds and have an equally wide array of future goals and majors, provide a variety of services year-round to support the department. This support includes, but is not limited to:

  • general property protection

  • traffic control

  • supplemental security for campus events large and small

AOs are deployed to provide security and traffic control for numerous campus events, including Penn State sporting events, HUB Late Night and HUB socials, Bryce Jordan Center concerts, student arrival days, and Ag Progress Days. Additionally, they patrol the residence hall areas throughout campus.
